The 117th IOC session will be held in the city-state of Singapore, from 2nd to 9th July. As in all major events, volunteers are the lifelines for the success of the event. The 117th IOC session is a high-profile sports meeting, involving influential members of the global sports fraternity.

Participation as a volunteer is based on qualities that each volunteer possesses, such as experience, enthusiasm, passion, dedication and professionalism.

KEY AREAS

The key areas that volunteers may serve are:

1) Logistics & Operations

2) Hospitality

3) Media

4) Programme

5) Secretariat


DURATION

The duration for each volunteer service depends on the nature of the section they have offered their services to. The average period is 7-10 days for the period that they have stated their interest in.


RECRUITMENT PROCEDURE

The volunteer recruitment procedure is:-

  • Personal Interview (if required)
  • Training
  • Participation

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for the Volunteers Programme, candidate volunteers must be at least 18 years of age as at 31 December 2004. 

Competency and fluency in the English language is a formal requirement. Every volunteer must complete all the stages of the 117th IOC session, Singapore 2005 Volunteer Training Programme.

The main briefing will be held on Saturday, 21 May 2005, 2.00 pm at the SSC Theatrette.

  • Management of volunteers in terms of welfare

Set-up @ Meeting Support Services

  • Assist in the daily session inventories, control daily equipment requirement and update the session's central delivery programme
  • Provide secretarial support to the venue logistics office and any other functional areas

Transport

  • Coordinate the transport needs of important people such as IOC members, Head of State, President of International Federations etc
  • Escort delegation members on board coaches used for the session
  • Assist in the management of the IOC fleet of cars and vans, including deployment and roster of drivers

  • Welcome and send off guests at the Changi International Airport
  • Provide information and assistance to members of the IOC and National Olympic Committees
  • Provide secretarial support, facilitate and manage matters of accommodation, and any other everyday activities if required

Accreditation & Accommodation

  • Meet accredited individuals at the accreditation centres and Swissotel
  • Crowd management
  • Support the venue accreditation coordinator and ensure that the Accreditation Centre and Hotel Helpdesk are in operational condition
  • Assist in the operation of the registration desks and accreditation centres at the RCCC, help to usher delegates and accredited members to the various session rooms and provide information and directions to the various function rooms and locations at RCCC Level 4

  • Gather and distribute information to journalists, provide services to photographers at the IBC and MPC
  • Provide administrative support to the IOC Communications Office, MPC and IBC
  • Work closely with IOC Communications Office to  coordinate media entries into the session hall
  • Provide information about the session programme, matters of accommodation, accreditation, transport, sight-seeing, F&B, embassies etc to the media
  • You must possess excellent communication skills with good knowledge of Singapore
